Board

Dr. Kerry Schott AO is a veteran of, and incisive commentator on Australia’s tumultuous energy, resources and climate policy journey, and has held a variety of other roles across both the public and private sectors.

Best known for her roles with Sydney Water and the Energy Security Board, Dr. Schott was recently Chair of NSW Net Zero Emissions Board and a board member at AGL. She currently is Chair of the Carbon Market Institute and Chair of the Australian Carbon Industry Code of Conduct.

Kerry previously spent 15 years as an investment banker, including as Managing Director of Deutsche Bank and Executive Vice President of Bankers Trust Australia. She has also worked as a public servant for the NSW and Commonwealth Government and was a graduate recruit at the Reserve Bank of Australia before further academic work.

Kerry holds a doctorate from Oxford University (Nuffield College), a Master of Arts from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver and a Bachelor of Arts (first class Honours) from the University of New England, Armidale NSW. She also accepted an Honorary Doctor of Science in Economics from the University of Sydney in 2014, as well as Honorary Doctorates from the Western Sydney University in 2015 and the University of New England in 2018.

She was awarded an Order of Australia in 2015 for services to business and commerce through a range of public and private sector finance roles.

Brad Kerin works as General Manager, Australia & Pacific, leading regional market development and operations for WeAct – a full service global climate solutions origination, development and trading organisation.

Brad has broad experience across the climate change and business space, particularly in understanding the role of companies, finance, technology, nature, integrity – and the impacts of policy and carbon markets on Australia’s transition to a zero-carbon economy.

Brad has previously worked as General of the Carbon Market Institute, Australia’s premier climate change and business association; as Director of the Australian Carbon Industry Code of Conduct, and with earlier career roles in strategy consulting.

Brad holds a Bachelor of International Economics and a Bachelor of Political Science and Communications from the University of Western Australia.

Code Review Panel

Virginia Malley has over 30 years’ experience in the design, execution and oversight of strategic governance, risk management and compliance frameworks for financial and environmental institutions.

A former Clean Energy Regulator board member from 2012 to 2020 and Macquarie Group employee from 1987 – 2012, she now serves on various boards and committees including the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust, Perpetual Equity Investment Company Limited, Future Super Group and Pinnacle Fund Services Ltd.

Virginia also undertook the independent review of the Carbon Industry Code of Conduct in 2019-20.

Kim Lawrence has wide ranging commercial experience encompassing the energy, mining, commodities markets and banking and finance sectors.

She is a member of ARENA’s Advisory Panel, a non-executive director of Conservation International Australia and has previously held senior finance and investment roles at the CEFC, Low Carbon Australia and in Macquarie Group’s American commodities markets business.

She also has strong legal and compliance experience in the finance sector including Legal Counsel of the Commonwealth Government Corporation.

Vicki Mullen is a lawyer with nearly 30 years’ experience in government and financial services, with a strong focus on public policy, regulatory affairs and stakeholder engagement. She has worked extensively in industry advocacy across the financial services sector. She is an expert on industry self-regulation and industry and professional codes of practice. During her time with the Insurance Council of Australia, she provided secretariat support for the 2012 Independent Review of the General Insurance Code of Practice (GICOP). She was then responsible for the arrangements to establish the independent Code Governance Committee for the GICOP.

She is a senior consultant with Finity Consulting, working with clients across the financial services sector, including involvement with Finity’s Climate and Sustainability Practice team.

Vicki also undertook the independent review of the Carbon Industry Code of Conduct in 2023-24.

Code Compliance Activity

The Administrator monitors and reviews compliance under the Code to ensure that Signatories continue to operate professionally and comply with Code          obligations.

The Code Review Panel

The Code Review Panel is an expert panel responsible for providing independent oversight, monitoring and direction of the Code, including to arbitrate compliance cases.

Independent Review

The Code integrates a three-yearly independent review mechanism that enables stakeholders to have input into the ongoing maturity, development and integrity of Australia’s carbon industry.
